Subtle as a brick

Awww, I love you bloggers! When I moan about having no comments, you front up and post some. Thank you, sweeties. Margaret, as far as not taking photos while looking at the sun - I learned that back in the old pre-digital days, so maybe it no longer counts. Personally, I like the effect of the sun in my photos.

Happy birthday Hattie! Glad you like the scarf.

You may be wondering what that all has to do with the post heading. Nothing. Nothing at all. That bit is coming.

I am planning to do some work based on New Zealand designs, as interpreted by moi. (It will NOT contain sheep. Just because we have 40 million sheep and only 4 million people doesn't mean our lives are dominated by sheep. though apparently tourists love the sheep thing.....)

Now, we Kiwis are not known for our subtlety. Not in any way. As far as our colours go, our creations are often thought of in terms of brights, due to our harsh light and excess of ultraviolet.

However, my planned work is of a more subtle nature. Just to show you we CAN do it. Here's some blended fabric that I made today which will form the background. I actually set out to do more browns but the other colours snuck in.

hi, catching up after weeks where the real world irritatingly interrupted my blogging....i must admit, i saw the title, then the photos and my first thought before reading the rest of the post was, well I think these are subtle, love the gentle blends.... so yes, in context, you did achieve the goal!

I love the fabric. Your photo of the shadows on the wall remind me of a photo I took at my old house. The grasses were dancing on the wall. And to think we are a half a world away thinking simular things are interesting. Whoda thunk.

I never comment on any of the two or three blogs I read!! But I pop in fairly regularly to check up on what you've been doing. I like the subtle rather than the bright and I really like your sunset/storm/cloud photos, your sky seems much more interesting than mine!

I think the one image that really evokes NZ for me is the outline of the Cabbage Tree against a weatherboard house - that's why I planted one at our front door as soon as we bought our place. It was de-headed by an aggressive Acacia a few years later but it is still hanging in there.
I love your sun photos.

Hi Shirley, I'm one of the bad ones too. Sorry! I do have a link to your blog though :-) I really like your work (and your view and your poodles)

The blue-grey-pink fabric is gorgeous! I'll promise to comment more often in the future.

I love the fabrics you have blended - the top set remind me of early cloudy mornings when the sun has just risen while the bottom prestorm or foggy days. love them!
I often pop in without commenting and knowing how much I hate it when people don't leave comments on mine I will try & always leave one for you.

Just catching up on my blog reading, and I spied your cat clock. I am seriously jealous. I forget the name of the creator, but I went looking for one of her clocks, only to find she had moved overseas and they are no longer sold here. Maybe I'll have to figure out how to make my own (since I have nothing else to do with my time - ha!)

I'm late to the party here, but I can't wait to see what you do with these. I dyed some similar fabrics this week.
