The shortest day, the longest night

These great photos were taken yesterday by my friend Donald.
Click on the link to see more wonderful shots of Central Otago. This has to be one of the most beautiful parts of New Zealand.

Unfortunately, I live on the coast and we seldom get snow here. There's another storm coming through today which is supposed to be dropping snow to sea level, but I doubt if we'll get any in Oamaru. Rats! I'm a city girl, from the North Island, and snow is a real novelty to me. (OK, Deb from Alaska - if you're reading this, I know YOU don't find it a novelty!)

Nothing much happening on the creative front. Mum is still in hospital while the doctors wait to see if the pancreatitis settles down by itself, as it often does.

Loved the comment about Mum looking like a spunky lady - she did a tandem parachute jump after she retired, which I think is pretty darned brave. And I am nervous having her in hospital because last time, she got an infection and ended up having a leg amputated and spending 6 months there.

It's so beautiful. I grew up in Queensland. I remember snow in London the winter before we left but I've been back in the south of the UK for over 30 years and I've not seen snow here deep enough to cover the grass since I arrived.

That is a beautiful view but it reminds me that we'll be looking at that in about 6 months or less. Hmmm.

I can't say I miss winter. I wouldn't mind summer all year around.

I am not a fan of the cold winters here in Chicagoland but love when it is snowing.

Hope your Mom is doing better. You and Mom are in my prayers.

I am very envious of all that snow - I see Otago is cut off. I can do winter all year round - Dale

And of course this day is also our longest day in the UK, but hey, even on the longest day of the year we can enjoy endless, relentless, wild rain.
Beautiful photos, it must be about 18 years since we had deep long lasting snow like that where I live up in the Chilterns. These days by the time I've found the camera, the snow has gone.

Wow what wonderful pictures. Yesterday was the longest day here in Scotland.

I hope your Mum is soon well. I suffered pancreatitis for a long time so have an idea what she is going through. She will be fine I am sure.

Those photos are beautiful - makes me yearn for a day in St Bathans. We had 1 inch of snow here last week and got all excited because it's the most we've seen for at least 2 years. Hope you get some your way.

That's what I call "winter wonderland". Snowfalls in Tennessee look like this. I love the beauty of it and then it's gone in a day or two. It feels like a gift ... much like an exceptional sunrise or sunset.

When we lived in Wisconsin, the aftermath of snowfalls hung on ... they became dirty frozen ruts and slippery ice banks for weeks afterwards.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your Mom!

I love to see the snow, but don't want to get any closer! Here in S. Florida I get mad if I have to put socks on my bare feet. hehehe

Actually Shirley, I didn't think it snowed down there! Brrrr.., I'm sad to think that winter is heading back here already. Funny to think your shortest day was my longest.
