Ok - your input is requested. This is Side 2 of the reversible quilt sample I'm putting together for a class (the simple patterned one featured a week or so ago). I decided to use some quite muted hand dyed greens for the reverse, and I've appliqued batik cats onto them to jazz them up a bit.
However, I didn't have enough of the same fabric for all 20 squares, so I added some other green hand dyed fabric for the other 6. Because they were different, I put the cats facing the other way as well. Initially I planned to have these in the centre of the quilt, but then thought they might look better randomly distributed.
Your opinions please, as to which layout looks better.
And it's not just cats who lie on your fabric - here's Cressy using some as a pillow. Right behind where I stand at the ironing board, of course.
Thanks to all of you who sent good wishes to Mum. We have really appreciated it. She has been sent home (but is feeling fine) as the hospital is too busy at present to operate - they will remove her gall bladder to ensure this doesn't happen again. So she'll go back in another week or so for this.

Shirley, I like the orderly one the best. It looks centered and shows off the green to advantage. Glad to herar mom's feeling better and that the surgery will end the problem! : ))
Random. It's more creative! Orderly is too stiff. Lovely greens...all of them!
I like random. Seems to keep the eyes moving around the quilt more, whereas the orderly seems static.
I vote random too! In addition to looking great, it makes the fabric selection and cat directions seem more deliberate.
My vote is for random :) Good news about your Mum! That puppy of yours sure is cute :)
I like the random. Great quilt!
My dogs lay on my fabric too.
I like the random too!
Random is so much more interesting.
Wanda
I like the random one. But I never am an "orderly" design person. The cats show up great on the background.
Definitely random.
Random, no contest!!
random is so much nicer I love the cats and the collors
I say random - I like the orderly one too, but I think the thing wrong is that the middle cats are all facing the same way. Just not quite right! It's gonna be a stunner!
Very good news about your mother.
For me I like the first photo best (well truly dogs always win hand down but you can't sew a poodle into a quilt, or can you?)
It gives the eye a resting point (quilt layout that is), there is enough to stimulate without doing it in the background too,
Just mohp,
Sally
Poor Mum!
Random distribution looks great.
I'd go with random too. Great to hear that your mother is better! Your dog is a cutie!
I agree with Joanna's comments. The green dispersed amongst the marbled fabric brings out the best qualities in both background fabrics. There could be other possibilities I guess.....have you fiddled with them every which way? I guess you have and have narrowed it down to 2.
I prefer the random but if you go for the orderly I'd put all the middle cats facing towards the centre. Looks a bit odd with them facing the same direction.
Random seems to be the hands down winner and I agree.
Well I'm a bit late on this Shirley, but I agree with most that randon is best.
Glad you mum will have the op soon.
She's a very gutsy lady.
yup, i vote random! tell your mom not to worry, i had my gall bladder out last August, easy peasie and never looked back!
Yes, random.
What would we do without our dogs?..
I vote for random too, but then I'm a random kind of girl. Best wishes to your Mum and to restoring your garden!
I'm normally an orderly person, but in this case, I like the random better. Although, you have to admit you've done a bit of ordering of the randomness. I like!
Wow Shirley, 24 comments.....25 now. I have never had that many. Makes a great change doesn't it, to know that people do have opinions about what the read and see. Keep it up!
I like random better, but them I'm a bit random myself.
Glad your Mom is home. Tell her to take it easy & stay away from any greasy foods, & things like cucumbers or gas producing things, until she gets that gallbladder out!
