Captivated by a design

Still on the Olympics theme, above is the Silver Fern logo that our New Zealand athletes are wearing to Beijing - which I just love as a design. The Silver Fern (Cyathea dealbata ), know here as the ponga (or punga), is a tree fern that grows all over New Zealand, and is our native emblem. I'm not sure who designed this stylized version but I think it's great. It's making me want to use this as a basis for a design.......

I'm definitely in a different place than I was during the last Olympics. I'm spending so much time studying the female gymnasts outfits and wondering about symbolism. The opening ceremonies were fascinating from a design standpoint too.

You're absolutely right, it's an amazingly graphic interpretation, so simple yet very powerful.
I have to say I'm one of those people who don't do sport, so haven't followed the Olympics, but it sounds as if i should at least have watched the openong ceremony, sounds as if it was quite a visual feast.
BTW I've awarded you the 'I love your blog' award, I hope that's OK :-), the details are on my blog.

As we were seeking help with designing a company brand/logo, I googled for the nz fern and found this on your page. I was on the verge of assigning a print & design company to do similar artwork to be contained in our logo and thought that I should really find out who the designer was and luckily tracked her down! Pls go here: www.taitokodesign.co.nz. This company has done some amazing and yet simple designs. They are now doing our own. Can't wait! PS: Love the pics on the tivaevae/patchwork. Simply amazing. - Monique
