The circle of life

Some more collage images of late summer flowers in my garden. Summer is officially over this weekend.
I love the clematis which I am training to grow up into my Kowhai tree.
Which brings me to this......under normal circumstances, a cat sleeping in a washing machine is amusing. But Grizabella is coming to the end of her life, and my little friend who has slept on my bed for many years is now sleeping in all sorts of strange places. For the last couple of weeks, I've been unable to let the dogs into the back yard as she was living in the garden by day and the woodshed by night. Prior to this, I took her to the vets because she'd lost weight . She had tests that cost me around $250, but showed nothing abnormal.

Griz was born on my bed, around 11 years ago, and is now clearly dying. It tears me up and I know I will soon have to take her on a one-way trip to the vets. For now, she is still eating (but not much) and doesn't seem too unhappy.

Life is tough.

When it comes to our pets Shirley we don't like to see them suffer but Griz seems to be making her own decisions on where she wants to spend her last days.
Life sucks sometimes.

Poor little cat.
She looks really cute in the washing machine.

Oh, this is tough. Last year I watched the swift decline of my faithful Labrador as she neared 14 years old. She never lost the fire in her eyes, so I never once blinked at the hefty vet bills I piled up for meds and emergency visits. It's hard to let go, and harder yet when the animal doesn't seem ready either, in spite of the body saying otherwise.

I made it a priority to give my dog as good of a last year as I could muster, but truly thought I'd have another year with her...which made me doubly glad I'd given her so much attention. That's really all you can do while you watch and worry - just make their time on earth as good as you can.

I'm sorry Griz is at the end of her life. She was a lucky cat to have a good life with you.

Like some humans , some pets grow old too soon. Our lovely old Ginther only lived to 11 years, young for some cats, but he was old, and well loved also.
She is a beauty, and if she is fading happily that's all we can ask.

That's such an adorable photo of a stage of life that is not at all adorable :( My heart goes out to you and to giz, and I wish you both well.
