And further to my earlier posts about "is this ART?", this year's Turner Prize* finalists include a naked mannequin sitting on the toilet, a rejigged clip from The Simpsons, a pile of dirty dishes at a supermarket checkout and a video of a woman pushing a cup and saucer off a table.
* The Turner Prize is worth 40,000 British pounds (that's around NZ$107,000 or US$70,000) and is given annually to a visual artist under the age of 50 (why? Do we become too old after that?). No wonder this award is so controversial.

Belated Happy Birthday Wishes. I have had a busy few days and hadn't visited my usuals on my list.
What is art? Ah, that will never be fully answered.
With a son who just graduated from Art School with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture, and whose work is installation ( the unmade bed would be an installation) and performance (the woman pushing the cup off the table would be performance) I'm in the middle of the philisophical debate.
I just remember my art teacher in college saying there is so much grief in the world she wanted to make it more beautiful.

I still haven't quite worked out why this particular prize is named after such a wonderful artist as Turner, or is there another one out there?
Happy Birthday.
