You could use anything - old curtains, furnishing fabrics, calico - or sew together orphan quilt blocks to make the outer pieces. I found the pattern (in tutorial for) here on Diane's blog.

Perfect! It's just what I was looking for to take my books to guild. :-). I already have lots of the floppy shopping bags and I can't see replacing them until they wear out.

I have made lots of grocery bags but never thought of interfacing them so they'd stand. Great idea. I may have to start again. Yours are so nice and bright.
